Stars in the Wild- World Expo

Client: Artists In Motion

Date: October 2021

We built a large, illuminated peacock, oryx and two camel puppets for Stars in the Wild by Artists in Motion, a magically captivating fusion of music, dance, and puppetry. The show itself shares a tale of a wise man, his oryx and a menagerie of colourful worldly creatures that live between dreams and reality.

The show was performed exclusively in 2021 at World Expo in Dubai, in the state-of-the-art main stage- The Al Wasl.

The concept for these gorgeous doe-eyed puppets were originally dreamed up by Luke Ede and Balooga Entertainment. It was an extremely fun project working to bring life into these playful animals, focusing on capturing their personalities, vibrant colours, and performance capabilities.

The puppets are operated from within by two concealed puppeteers. We made sure to build in a small discreet camera in the animal’s mouth, that allows the performers to have a clear and controlled view of their surroundings.

The puppets themselves were built with a combination of PE foam, soft textiles and faux fur, lightweight aluminium framing, and special custom embellishments.

Each puppet was engineered to move fluidly and life-like, using custom-built mechanisms that allowed for eye blinks, tail flicks and complete control of the head, neck, limbs and ankles.
