Camp Quality Puppets
Client: Camp Quality Org.
Celebrating 33 years of educational impact, A Blanck Canvas is thrilled to be part of the significant upgrade to Camp Quality’s Cancer Education Program. Our team crafted six new, brightly coloured puppets, blending contemporary design with easy sanitisation for a safer interaction.
One key function of the puppets is to provide educational information to the community about cancer and dispel misconceptions. They achieve this through relatable and age-appropriate comedic methods, ensuring that both children and staff gain a better understanding of the cancer journey. The puppets play a crucial role in helping families by addressing difficult questions, sparing them from having to tackle these challenging issues.
Responding to the client’s request, we dedicated extensive research and development to ensure the materials used for these delightful puppets could go through constant thorough sanitisation, and consistent cleaning. This critical effort prioritised a safer experience for children with compromised immune systems.
The relaunch at Federation square 2022 introduces our creations of the new characters; Ariel, Tom, and Coach Grimble, alongside refreshed versions of the original puppets, Kylie, Dean, and Mel. Each puppet’s construction involved the development of distinct personalities, carefully aligned with their individual design aesthetics. This intentional approach ensured that each puppet not only had a unique appearance but also reflected a predetermined set of characteristics, as requested by the client.
Camp Quality’s CEO, Deborah Thomas, sees this redevelopment as a major milestone, emphasising inclusivity and broadening the cancer narrative. “The enhanced program, featuring redesigned puppets, additional characters, new shows, and teacher resources, reflects our commitment to enhancing the educational experience for Aussie kids.”
A Blanck Canvas is honoured to contribute to the program’s proven success in reducing bullying, absenteeism, and the need for mental health support services for children and families impacted by cancer.
The ABC family expresses enduring gratitude to Camp Quality and the exceptionally talented puppeteers for their invaluable support.
